VICTORY SMASH 1 - 10/11/14 - VICTORY GAMES (PLAINFIELD, IL)
Windy City eSports has entered a new partnership with Victory Games (TopCut Gaming) in Plainfield, IL! To celebrate us settling into a new venue, we will be retiring our Suburb Smash series and beginning a new series, Victory Smash. This will be a dedicated Smash monthly, featuring Melee and Project M primarily (with hopes of adding Smash 4 later this year). Victory Smash 1 will take place on Saturday October 11th, 2014 at 1:00pm. Registration has already opened, and can be found under our tournaments tab. For more information on rules, location, and other tidbits--head over to Smashboards! We are also pleased to announce we plan to have a dedicated stream for all Smash events at Victory Games.
MONDAY NIGHT SMASH: THE NEW WEEKLY IN CHICAGOLAND!
With a new venue comes new possibilities. At Victory Games, we are able to finally introduce and roll out our new Smash weekly, "Monday Night Smash." These weeklies will take place Monday nights beginning at 7:00pm, and will feature two games (Melee, Project M, or Smash 4). This weekly will routinely be streamed via our Twitch channel, the new Windy City eSports Network (WCEN). More details to come soon on this event!
SUBURB SMASH 3 - 8/31/14 - RECAP
Suburb Smash 3 featured Melee and Project M players from all around Chicagoland. Super Smash Bros. Melee saw 21 entrants compete, none more scary than projected favorite ORLY. Ranked 4th overall in our Melee Top 16 Chicagoland poll, every player was aware. And none appeared prepared, for that matter. Blowing through the bracket, ORLY swept best-of-five matches with Ravi and Chop Shop with what appeared to be his preferred secondary characters, en route to a 1st place finish in our Melee tournament.
But he wasn't done.
Ranked 3rd overall in our Project M Top 16 Chicagoland poll, ORLY was once again the favorite to win the Project M tournament at Suburb Smash 3. The Project M bracket saw 30 entrants, including appearances from regulars such as Norm, Pseudo and Shion. ORLY took out Norm in Winners Finals, as Shion waited in the Losers bracket. In Losers Finals between Norm and Shion, it was down to the wire as the match was tied at 2-2 entering game five. Both players were down to a single stock, approaching 100%+ damage when Shion picked Norm midair with a down smash, spiking Norm off stage for his last stock and eliminating him from the bracket. The fireworks didn't last long, however, as ORLY swept Shion 3-0 in Grand Finals and won the second tournament of the day.
